Landslides at Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar of Bangladesh, 9 dead
In Bangladesh, nine people including eight Rohingyas died in landslides in separate Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday amid heavy rain.
The local administration official said big chunks of mud collapsed on a number of houses in No 9 and 10 Rohingya camps around 6 am on Wednesday, leaving six and three people dead respectively on the spot.
The bodies of nine people were recovered and the death toll may increase further, said the officials.
Members of the Fire Service and Civil Defence are continuing rescue operations with the help of locals, reports Bangladesh Sanghbad Sangtha (BSS).
Cox’s Bazar has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Tuesday.
Local authorities and emergency response teams have been deployed to the scene to provide assistance and support to the affected families.
The camps, which house hundreds of thousands of Rohingya refugees, have been particularly vulnerable to natural disasters due to its hilly terrain and makeshift structures.
