PM Modi reaffirms India’s commitment to BIMSTEC, supports Thailand for upcoming summit

The foreign ministers of BIMSTEC member states convened for a joint meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday, focusing on enhancing regional cooperation across various sectors.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Union Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs, Pabitra Margherita, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval also attended the meeting.

PM Modi engaged in productive discussions with the group of ministers, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in areas such as connectivity, energy, trade, health, agriculture, science, security, and people-to-people exchanges. He highlighted the pivotal role of BIMSTEC as a driving force for economic and social growth in the region.

The prime minister reaffirmed India’s commitment to fostering a peaceful, prosperous, resilient, and secure BIMSTEC region. He underscored the significance of BIMSTEC in India’s Neighbourhood First and Look East Policies, as well as in its SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) vision.

Prime Minister Modi also expressed India’s full support for Thailand as it prepares to host the upcoming BIMSTEC Summit in September, signaling India’s dedication to the continued success and cooperation within the BIMSTEC framework.
