Landslides disrupt traffic across Nepal amid heavy rainfall
Nepal’s Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a weather advisory, forecasting partly to generally cloudy skies across the country. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected in various areas throughout all provinces.
Heavy rainfall is likely in certain regions, particularly in the Koshi, Madhes, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with isolated heavy showers anticipated in other provinces.
The Department has urged residents in the Koshi, Madhes, and Lumbini provinces to take precautionary safety measures due to the possibility of heavy rainfall, which may lead to further landslides and flooding.
On Wednesday, a landslide in the Nagdhunga area of Chandragiri, within Kathmandu Valley, caused significant disruption to vehicular traffic. In the Kalikot district, the Karnali Highway was blocked by landslides triggered by incessant rain, particularly in the Smode and Hulma areas.
Efforts are currently underway to clear the roads obstructed by these landslides and restore normal traffic flow.
