India is voice of Global South; the world listens when we speak: PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized India’s growing influence on the global stage during his address to the Indian diaspora in New York, asserting that “the world listens when India speaks.”
Highlighting India’s role as a significant voice for the Global South, PM Modi said, “When India articulates a stance on a global platform, the world pays attention. Recently, when I stated that this is not the era of war, that message resonated deeply.”
This commitment was exemplified through the Voice of Global South Summit hosted by India in January 2023, which brought together leaders from developing nations to address shared challenges and opportunities under the theme “Unity of Voice, Unity of Purpose.” By facilitating such a platform, India showcased its dedication to fostering cooperation and driving positive change among these nations.
PM Modi elaborated on India’s philosophy of power, saying, “For India, power means that knowledge is for sharing, wealth is for caring, and power is for protecting.” He underscored that India is not merely a participant on the global stage but a leader that creates innovative systems, including the concept of digital public infrastructure (DPI).
“Our partnership is expanding globally,” PM Modi added, reflecting on India’s shift from a policy of equidistance to active engagement. He pointed out that India’s 5G market has surpassed that of the United States within just two years and announced ongoing efforts toward developing ‘Made in India’ 6G technology.
Speaking about the transformative changes in India over the past decade, he said, “In the last ten years, India has lifted 25 crore people out of poverty by focusing on empowerment and connecting over 50 crore individuals to the banking system.” He also highlighted India’s rapid economic ascent, moving from the 10th to the 5th largest economy, with aspirations to become the 3rd largest soon.
Discussing India’s youthful demographic, PM Modi expressed pride in the nation’s achievements, including winning gold in the Chess Olympiad for both men and women—a historic first in a century. “India is filled with energy and dreams. We have AI driving India, alongside Aspirational India, which is a new force for growth,” he said.
In outlining his vision for “Modi 3.0,” he introduced the concept of ‘PUSHP’—Progressive Bharat, Unstoppable Bharat, Spiritual Bharat, Humanity-committed Bharat, and Prosperous Bharat—aiming for a Viksit Bharat.
He also addressed global conflicts, stating, “2024 is crucial for the world. While some nations face tensions, others celebrate democracy.” PM Modi emphasized India’s priority to enhance its impact rather than merely expand its presence, quoting, “We don’t seek supremacy; we aim to contribute to global prosperity.”
