Jaishankar, Mandaviya launch e-Migrate portal and mobile app

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Union Minister of Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya launched the e-Migrate portal and mobile app on Thursday.

What is e-Migrate portal?

The e-Migrate portal is an online platform launched by the Government of India to facilitate and manage the migration of Indian workers seeking employment abroad. It aims to provide a safe and transparent framework for migrant workers by offering various services, including: information access, documentation, helpline support, integration with services and awareness campaigns

At the launch, Jaishankar said that the portal represents the government’s commitment to safer and more transparent mobility for Indian workers, marking a significant milestone in safeguarding their welfare. He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s initiative to raise awareness about safe migration through a commemorative postal stamp with the motto “Surakshit Jaayen, Prashikshit Jaayen” (Go safe, go well trained).

Jaishankar emphasized that the e-Migrate portal aligns with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and reflects the evolving dynamics of global migration. He highlighted the growing need for a well-trained workforce and underscored that India has actively engaged in migration negotiations since 2015.

The revamped portal will feature a 24/7 multilingual helpline and will be integrated with Digilocker for secure document storage, allowing immigrants to obtain clearances in a paperless manner. It aims to broaden the social security net for immigrants through insurance policies and digital payment services with zero transaction charges.

The defence minister expressed the government’s commitment to creating safe and legal channels for emigrants and to protecting their rights and dignity abroad.
