German Federal Minister of Defence to arrive on a four-day visit to India

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will hold bilateral talks with German Federal Minister of Defence on June 06.

With the evolving power dynamics and new challenges in the global political arena, it seems like the diplomatic corridors of New Delhi have shifted their focus towards a proactive approach aimed at enhancing their defence cooperation with friendly nations.

After holding a comprehensive deliberation recently over strengthening India-US defence cooperation in several areas, including convergence of strategic interests and enhanced security cooperation, New Delhi is poised to welcome its other Indo-Pacific ally, Germany, to envisage deeper cooperation regarding security and defence issues.

German Defence Minister’s India visit

India is all set to welcome German Federal Minister of Defence Boris Pistorius, who is scheduled to arrive in India today for a high-level visit aimed at facilitating bilateral defence cooperation and exploring avenues for strategic partnership.

While specific details about his visit remain under the carpet, if reports are to be believed, the German Minister’s visit will focus on promoting a submarine deal between the two nations.

During his four-day visit, Minister Pistorius will hold meetings with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, to discuss a wide range of matters pertaining to bilateral defence cooperation, with a special emphasis on industrial cooperation.

Elaborating on the details of the German Federal Minister’s visit, the Ministry of Defence said, “The German Federal Minister of Defence will be on a four-day visit to India beginning June 05.”

“He will arrive from Indonesia. Apart from his meeting with the Raksha Mantri, Mr. Boris Pistorius is likely to meet a few defence start-ups during an event organised by Innovation for Defence Excellenge (iDEX) in New Delhi,” the Ministry of Defence added.

Further, during the visit, German Minister Boris Pistorius is also likely to meet a few defence start-ups during an event organised by Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) in New Delhi. On June 7, he will travel to Mumbai, where he is likely to visit Headquarters, Western Naval Command and Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.
