Chief Secretary Shri Rajkumar reviewed Rescue and Relief Operations ahead of Cyclone Biparjoy

More than 20,000 people relocated to safer places from the districts affected by Biparjoy said Commissioner of Relief Shri Alok Kumar Pandey

Cyclone Biparjoy is likely to make landfall at Mandvi-Jakhau port in Kutch by June 15

Total of 29 teams (17 NDRF and 12 SDRF) deployed in cyclone-affected districts

State Government is providing continuous assistance for Disaster Management to the District Administration

Chief Secretary to Hon’ble CM, Shri Rajkumar reviewed the rescue and relief operations to provide necessary guidance via video conferencing. This is in line with the efforts of the state government to ensure that no loss of life occurs due to the cyclonic effects in the coastal districts of Kutch, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Junagadh, Gir Somnath, Morbi, and Rajkot.

A comprehensive review was done around the preparations of the District Administrations and it was decided that priority will be given to the migration of individuals to mitigate casualties and minimize the losses, said Hon’ble Commissioner of Relief Shri Alok Kumar Pandey.

As of now, over 20 thousand people have been successfully relocated to safer areas in the affected districts. The ongoing evacuation process is expected to conclude by this evening. Till now, 20,588 people have been evacuated to safe places in various districts of Gujarat including 500 in Junagadh, 6,786 in Kutch, 1,500 in Jamnagar, 543 in Porbandar, 4,820 in Dwarka, 408 in Gir Somnath, 2,000 in Morbi, and 4,031 in Rajkot.

Hon’ble Commissioner of Relief has deployed 17 teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) and 12 teams of SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) in the affected districts due to cyclone Biparjoy. The rescue teams are deployed as per the needs of the district. 4 teams in Kutch, 3 teams in Devbhoomi Dwarka, 3 teams in Rajkot, 2 teams in Jamnagar, and one team each in Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Morbi, and Valsad are present. Additionally, Vadodara has 3 teams and Gandhinagar has 1 team kept in reserve.

In SDRF, there are 2 teams each in Kutch, Jamnagar, and Devbhoomi Dwarka, while Junagadh, Porbandar, Gir Somnath, Morbi, Patan, and Banaskantha have one team each. Furthermore, Surat has one reserve team. The PGVCL teams have made available the required quantity including power poles in the substations to restore power supply after the storm. After the cyclone, teams of the forest department and road department have been equipped with the necessary equipment along with tree cutters to open the roads in the affected areas.

Shri Alok Pandey said that in the districts affected by the coastal areas, shelter homes have been prepared in government schools and offices. These places provide safe accommodations along with essential facilities such as food, drink, and medicine. In addition to this, nearby locations have been equipped with health centers and both public and private hospitals, where enough medical staff and necessary medicines are available.

After receiving the latest updates from the weather department regarding the cyclone, the fishermen have safely returned. The state government is in constant touch with the district administration for providing immediate and necessary assistance for rescue operations acclaimed by Shri Alok Pandey.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Shri Mansukhbhai Mandaviya from Kutch, Hon’ble Minister of Health, and Education Shri Rushikeshbhai Patel, MoS Shri Prafulbhai Pansuriya, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Energy Shri Kanubhai Desai from Morbi, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture Shri Raghavjibhai Patel from Rajkot and Hon’ble Minister of Water Supply Shri Kunvarjibhai Bavaliya from Porbandar were part of the review meeting.
