Bangladesh likely to get BRICS membership- Foreign Minister Dr. Momen

Bangladesh has been invited to be a guest by the BRICS bank and it is likely to be made a member of the BRICS. Briefing media after the meeting of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with the South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaposha in Geneva on Wednesday, Dr. Momen said the issue was raised during the meeting between the two leaders, reports the official news agency BSS. The BRICS conference is scheduled to be held in South Africa in August.

BRICS is a grouping of five countries including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Eight more countries, including Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Indonesia are among the eight countries likely to be included in the BRICS in future.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is currently on a visit to Switzerland to take part in the World of Work Summit 2023 in Geneva, Switzerland.
