Oman creates History as first foreign government to promote country through Yoga

This novel initiative by the Omani establishment demonstrates the increasing popularity and acceptance of yoga as a health practice worldwide but also highlights its growing prominence in this beautiful country. With a significant Indian community of 700,000 in Oman, yoga has gained considerable traction in recent years.

In a pioneering initiative, the Indian Embassy in the sultanate of Oman has introduced an innovative video called ‘Soulful Yoga, Serene Oman’ on the eve of the International Day of Yoga 2023. The video showcases yoga enthusiasts from different countries performing beautiful yoga poses against stunning backdrops such as mountains, beaches and sand dunes in and around Muscat.

What makes this video unique is its collaboration with the Government of Oman. The Indian Embassy has partnered with ‘Visit Oman,’ a subsidiary of Oman’s Ministry of Tourism, to produce the video. This marks the first instance of a foreign government using yoga to promote its own country.

The video not only demonstrates the increasing popularity and acceptance of yoga as a health practice worldwide but also highlights its growing prominence in Oman. With a significant Indian community of 700,000 in Oman, yoga has gained considerable traction in recent years.

The Indian Embassy has been actively involved in promoting yoga in Oman through various initiatives. In 2022, in ‘Muscat Yog Mahotsav,’ a 75-day celebration featuring over 75 yoga events across major cities in Oman timed with the 75 years of India’s independence under ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, thousands of people participated, experiencing the transformative power of yoga in their lives.

Continuing their efforts, the Embassy launched the ‘Oman Yoga Yatra’ this year, a five-month-long journey leading up to a large-scale celebration of the International Day of Yoga 2023. The event, scheduled for June 21, 2023, is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants from diverse backgrounds.

Moreover, the Embassy has reached out to specific segments of Omani society. They organized a special yoga session for the Men’s and Women’s National Hockey teams of Oman, emphasizing the significance of yoga in sports. Additionally, a curated yoga session was arranged for children with special needs, showcasing the therapeutic benefits of yoga for their well-being.

The collaboration between the Indian Embassy and the Government of Oman aims to visually demonstrate the fusion of yoga’s tranquility with Oman’s picturesque landscapes. This initiative not only promotes tourism but also signifies the power of wellness practices in fostering cultural exchanges between nations.
