Second Unit of Adani power plant in Godda becomes operational
The second unit of the 2×800 MW Adani Power plant in Godda, Jharkhand became commercially operational on Sunday. The second unit has the capacity to generate 800 MW of electricity which is now available for Bangladesh for use as per its requirement. The opening of the second unit of the Adani Power plant was announced by the company through the mandatory filing with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Prior to this the power plant had completed its reliability run tests successfully.
The Adani Power Jharkhand Limited plant at Godda has been set up exclusively to export electricity to Bangladesh. The first unit of the plant became commercially operational in April this year supplying electricity to Bangladesh.
The Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) constructed 134 kilometres of transmission line from the Chapainawabganj border to Bogra substation for receiving electricity from Godda plant of Adani power.
Bangladesh currently imports 1160 MW of power from India. It receives 1,000 MW of electricity from Berhampur in West Bengal via Kushtia’s Bheramara and 160 MW from Suryamoni in Tripura via Comilla daily. India is the only country with whom Bangladesh has Cross Border Electricity Trade (CBET).
