Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra reached Colombo yesterday on an official visit
Speaking to media he said the purpose of his visit was to prepare for the upcoming visit of Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremasinghe to India. He called on the President Ranil Wickremasinghe, and Foreign Minister M.U.M. Ali Sabry.
He also met his Sri Lankan counterpart Aruni Wijewardene in addition to other key ministers in the Sri Lankan government.
He said that his discussions today focussed towards ensuring that the visit of Sri Lankan president is a point of positive transformation in India Sri Lanka relations. He added that discussions were also held on key areas of partnership that could be progressed ahead of visit as well as those that will be dealt during the visit. The meetings also focussed on priority areas for both countries as well as ways to strengthen the partnerships and its future course. Mr. Kwatra added that Mr. Wickremasinghe is a strong supporter of the India-Sri Lanka relationship and mentioned the cooperation between the two countries over the last 14 to 16 months of the challenges that Sri Lanka went through.
The Indian Foreign Secretary concluded visit later in the afternoon.
Mr. Wickremesinghe’s upcoming visit to India will be his first since he took office in 2022.
