BIMSTEC members resolve to cooperate in food, health and power sectors
Various dimensions in which cooperation can be worked out were discussed in the meeting in Bangkok. Food, health and energy are common concerns, which can be sorted out through cooperation. The members resolved to concentrate on these issues.
Countries connected to the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) will work together in the fields of food security, health, and power, the foreign ministers decided in a meeting.
The objective of the organisation is to promote the development of the region. Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Shri Lanka, Myanmar, and Thailand are the members of the organisation.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that with flexible policy and cooperation, the member nations would face the challenges posed to them. Jaishankar appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi who quickly understands the issues which need attention on a priority basis. He plans programmes and policies to sort out those issues. Jaishankar also shared his experience of his journey from a diplomat to a politician.
