Monsoon Session: Government ready to discuss all issues of public importance, assures ministers

Spread over a period of 23 days, the session will have 17 sittings and tentatively 31 legislative items have been identified for being taken up during this session.

Parliament’s monsoon session, beginning today, is set to be stormy with opposition parties appearing determined to rake up a number of issues of public importance, which the government has assured to be addressing. This session will continue till August 11 and there would be a total of 17 sittings.

During the session, 31 bills have been listed by the government for the passage. The session beginning in the old Parliament Building, may shift to the new building later, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in May this year.

Earlier, the government convened an all party meeting and requested the opposition leaders for their cooperation for the smooth functioning of parliament. The government has also agreed to the discussion on the Manipur situation in both the houses of parliament.

Last evening, under the chairmanship of defence minister Rajnath Singh, the meeting with the floor leaders of all political parties was held as is the convention. In his opening remark during the meeting, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Pralhad Joshi informed that the Monsoon Session of Parliament, will commence on the 20th July, 2023 and subject to exigencies of government business, it may conclude on the 11th August, 2023.

Spread over a period of 23 days, the session will have 17 sittings and tentatively 31 legislative items have been identified for being taken up during this session.

The parliamentary affairs minister also stated that the government is always ready to discuss any issue as permitted under rules of procedure by respective presiding officers on the floor of the House.

The parliamentary minister also requested all party leaders for active cooperation and support for the smooth functioning of the two houses of parliament. In the end, Rajnath Singh thanked leaders for their active and effective participation in the meeting and also for highlighting issues of public importance.

Singh also stated that the government is ready to hold discussion on all issues of public importance including the situation in Manipur. In total, the meeting was attended by 49 leaders from 34 political parties.
