Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe to undertake his 2 day official visit to India
Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe will undertake his 2 day official visit to India today.
This is his first visit since assuming the office of President at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The visit takes place as both countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations this year.
During the visit, President Wickremesinghe is scheduled to meet the President Droupadi Murmu and hold bilateral discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Indian dignitaries on a range of issues of mutual interest.
The President’s visit comes at a time when Sri Lanka’s weak economy shows signs of recovery after the 2022 financial crisis, when it was hit by a severe shortage of foreign exchange reserves. India helped Sri Lanka with dedicated credit lines for fuel and essential items.
Sri Lanka is an important partner in India’s Neighbourhood First policy and Vision SAGAR. SL President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit will reinforce the longstanding friendship between the two countries and explore avenues for enhanced connectivity and mutually beneficial cooperation across sectors.
The visit will further advance and consolidate the long-standing bilateral relations between the two countries.
