Study In India’ portal launched to attract international students

This initiative will not only attract more international students from across the world but also establish a strong brand India footprint in the education sphere.

With the vision of re-establishing India as a global hub of education, the government launched Study in India (SII) Portal. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar jointly launched the portal on August 3, in the presence of ambassadors from over 10 countries.

The Study in India Portal is a dedicated website to provide comprehensive information about the Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). The website will illustrate academic programs, including undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and doctoral level programs. It will also provide information about courses in the Indian Knowledge System, such as Yoga, Ayurveda, classical arts, etc

Additionally, the portal will present information about the academic facilities, research support, and related information. It will also provide students with the option to apply to multiple institutes or courses of their choice. The portal will not just be an integrated one-stop solution for student registration but will also facilitate visa application process.

Addressing the event, EAM Dr. S Jaishankar said, “This initiative will not only attract more international students from across the world but also establish a strong brand India footprint in the education sphere.”

Dr. S Jaishankar also mentioned that the implementation of NEP 2020 has facilitated the entry of foreign universities into India and the establishment of international campuses for India’s premier institutions. Further, the launch of SII portal will also boost the presence of international students in India, benefiting the domestic students by connecting them more to globalizing world and a global workplace.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the portal will simplify the academic journey of students in India. The Minister emphasised on the portal’s significance, and added, “Guided by the NEP, the SII Portal reflects our commitment to make India a preferred education destination as well as to blur academic boundaries for shaping a prosperous future.”

The SII program envisions promoting India as the preferred study destination by providing affordable and quality education at par with global standards, thereby enhancing the overall quality improvement in higher education. Hence, the Study in India programme involves partnership with educational institutes fulfilling one of the following criteria:

– National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF)ranking (<=100)
