Sports Minister Anurag Thakur says first time in 60 years, India has won 107 medals in Asian Games

Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Anurag Thakur has saluted all the athletes for bringing historic glory to India with their stellar performance. In a social media post, Mr Thakur said that for the first time in 60 years, India has won 107 medals in the Asian Games. This is a 52 percent increase in medal tally from 2018. Mr Thakur said, the hard work, resilience and determination of the government to create a sports ecosystem that supports athletes at every level has brought about this historic result.

The Minister said, the confidence with which the athletes approached the competition gave every Indian a reason to cheer. He added that they refused to settle for anything less than victory, adding 75 percent more gold medals to India’s tally. He asserted that the confidence and on-field prowess of the athletes brought in medals in 16 new categories, with women athletes contributing 50 percent of the total medal tally. He also said that he is looking forward to meeting them tomorrow and sharing the joy of the victory with them.
