PM Modi to inaugurate key infrastructure projects on two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh, Kerala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on a two-day visit to Andhra Pradesh and Kerala from Januray 16.

The PM will inaugurate the new campus of the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics in Andhra Pradesh. He will also interact with Officer Trainees of the 74th and 75th batches of the Indian Revenue Service as well as officer trainees of the Royal Civil Service of Bhutan.

The Prime Minister will perform pooja and darshan at Guruvayur Temple in Kerala on Wednesday, followed by a similar ceremony at Thriprayar Shree Ramaswami Temple. During his visit to Kochi, PM Modi will inaugurate three major infrastructure projects worth more than ₹4000 crore. These major infrastructure projects are in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to transform India’s ports, shipping, and waterways sector.

Day 1: Andhra visit

Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the new campus of the National Academy of Customs at approxiamtely 3: 30 pm in Palasamudram, Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. During this visit, he will also engage with Officer Trainees of the 74th and 75th batches of the Indian Revenue Service (Custom & Indirect Taxes) and Officer Trainees of the Royal Civil Service of Bhutan. and he

Day 2: Kerala visit

Starting at 7:30 AM, Prime Minister Modi will begin his day with pooja and darshan at Guruvayur Temple in Kerala. Subsequently, he will perform similar rituals at Thriprayar Shree Ramaswami Temple at around 10:30 am. The day will culminate with the inauguration of crucial infrastructure projects related to the ports, shipping, and waterways sector around 12 Noon.

Boost to ports, shipping, and waterways sector

During his visit to Kochi, Prime Minister Modi is poised to inaugurate three major infrastructure projects collectively worth over Rs. 4,000 crore. The projects include the New Dry Dock (NDD) at Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), the International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) of CSL, and the LPG Import Terminal of Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Puthuvypeen, Kochi.

The New Dry Dock, constructed at a cost of approximately Rs. 1,800 crore, stands as a testament to India’s engineering prowess. Spanning 310 meters in length with a width of 75/60 meters, a depth of 13 meters, and a draught of up to 9.5 meters, it is one of the largest marine infrastructures in the region. This flagship project positions India with advanced capabilities to handle strategic assets and large commercial vessels, reducing dependency on foreign nations for emergency national requirements.

The International Ship Repair Facility (ISRF) project, built at a cost of about Rs. 970 crore, is a unique facility with a ship lift system, transfer system, workstations, and a berth, capable of accommodating seven vessels simultaneously. This facility will modernize and expand CSL’s ship repair capabilities, aiming to transform Kochi into a global ship repair hub.

Indian Oil’s LPG Import Terminal at Puthuvypeen, Kochi, constructed at an approximate cost of Rs. 1,236 Crores, features state-of-the-art facilities and a 15,400 MT storage capacity. This terminal is expected to ensure a steady supply of LPG for households and businesses in the region, contributing to India’s efforts for accessible and affordable energy.

These infrastructure projects align with Prime Minister Modi’s vision to transform India’s ports, shipping, and waterways sector, enhancing capacity and self-sufficiency.

National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes & Narcotics

In line with the Prime Minister’s vision of enhancing governance through Civil Service Capacity Building, the new state-of-the-art campus of NACIN has been conceptualized and built in Palasamudram, Sri Sathya Sai District, Andhra Pradesh. Spanning 500 acres, the academy serves as the apex institution of the Government of India for capacity building in the field of Indirect Taxation (Customs, Central Excise, and Goods and Services Tax) and Narcotics Control Administration.

This national-level, world-class training institute will provide training to officials of the Indian Revenue Service (Custom & Indirect Taxes), central allied services, state governments, and partner nations. The addition of this new campus will emphasize the use of cutting-edge technologies such as Augmented & Virtual Reality, Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, and other emerging technologies for training and capacity building.
