Fog and cold wave disrupt train and flight services across North India
Persistent fog and a cold wave continue to tighten their grip on North India, causing disruptions in both train and flight services in the national capital.
As reported by Indian Railways, 24 trains bound for Delhi are experiencing delays on Wednesday due to the dense fog.
The adverse weather conditions have significantly reduced visibility, leading to the postponement and cancellation of flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the cold wave is expected to persist in the northern regions of Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh in the coming days. These conditions have resulted in low visibility and the subsequent disruption of both rail and air traffic.
According to the IMD’s forecast, dense fog is anticipated to persist across North India for the next five days, particularly during the night and morning hours in parts of Delhi, Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Additionally, pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura are expected to experience dense fog over the next 2 to 3 days.
The IMD has also predicted cold to severe cold day conditions in parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, and Bihar for the next two days.
Ground frost conditions are anticipated today in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Uttar Pradesh. There is a likelihood of light to moderate rainfall in many areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands until Sunday, with the possibility of heavy rainfall tomorrow. The IMD reported a minimum temperature of 1.5 degrees Celsius yesterday in Meerut, West Uttar Pradesh.
