UAE Experiences Heaviest Rainfall on Record in 75 Years
The United Arab Emirates has been hit by the heaviest rainfall event ever recorded in the country, surpassing all data collected since 1949. The downpour affected numerous regions across the UAE over the past 24 hours . The National Centre of Meteorology confirmed the exceptional nature of this weather event. Further rainfall is expected in the coming hours. The highest amount of rainfall so far was recorded in the Khatm Al Shakla area of Al Ain, reaching a staggering 254 millimeters (almost 10 inches) in less than a day.
While this rainfall is expected to increase the UAE’s annual average and replenish groundwater reserves, it has also caused significant disruptions. Dubai International Airport has advised passengers to avoid traveling to the airport unless absolutely necessary. So far one death is also reported from the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah.
