India’s scientists transformed its space sector amid challenges, says Admiral Hari Kumar
The Chief of Naval Staff, Admiral R Hari Kumar, said on Thursday that India’s scientists have excelled in the country’s space sector despite challenges and denial of technology.
Addressing the Indian Defspace Symposium 2024 in New Delhi, Admiral Kumar said that India’s space sector is advancing at a rapid pace. He highlighted the recent government initiatives to boost foreign direct investment (FDI) in the sector.
“With Elon Musk’s impending visit and the government of India’s announcement of 100 percent FDI in components, systems, subsystems, and 49 percent FDI in launch vehicles and associated systems and subsystems, it isn’t now rocket science to realize that Bharat traverses the Amritkaal,” Admiral Kumar said.
“Our space sector is leading the charge at escape velocity.”
Admiral Kumar pointed out that India is among the few countries to have created a complete space ecosystem, successfully executing missions to both the moon and the sun.
The Navy chief said that India’s space program plays a critical role in national development and security, underscoring the establishment of the Defense Space Agency to leverage space for national security and foster collaboration with emerging technologies.
“Together, we can unlock new frontiers of exploration, while ensuring the safety, security and prosperity of our great nation,” Admiral Hari Kumar said.
