Chandigarh, March 6, 2026: Punjab Cabinet Minister Sanjeev Arora on Friday announced a series of electricity tariff reductions for domestic, commercial and industrial consumers in the state, saying the move aims to provide financial relief and encourage economic growth.<\/p>\n
Addressing the media, Arora said households in Punjab will continue to receive 300 units of free electricity under the government\u2019s existing scheme. In addition, the government has reduced the domestic electricity tariff by 70 paise per unit. The fixed charges on electricity bills have also been lowered from \u20b95\u2013\u20b910 per kilowatt per month, providing further relief to consumers.<\/p>\n

The minister also announced a reduction in tariffs for commercial establishments. \u201cFor commercial consumers, the tariff has been reduced by 65 paise per unit, and depending on the power load of certain establishments, the reduction may range between 65 paise and 79 paise per unit,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Highlighting the government\u2019s push for clean mobility, Arora said special provisions have been introduced for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. \u201cAs Punjabis are increasingly purchasing EVs, the government has decided that whenever an EV charging station is set up, the fixed charge will be \u20b95 per unit, which is the lowest among all categories,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
The minister further announced relief for the industrial sector, stating that the government has reduced fixed electricity charges for industries with loads up to 100 KW.<\/p>\n
Providing further reassurance to industrial stakeholders, Arora said that for the 2026\u201327 financial year, the Punjab government will not impose the usual three per cent annual tariff increase that is typically applied to industrial consumers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
