With the Assembly polls in Rajasthan just months away, the BJP on Wednesday started building its election strategy to retain the state, which of late, gave it embarrassing bypoll defeats.

Apart from various mass contact and reach-out plans, the party will depend upon its time-tested formula--strengthening the grassroots through ‘panna pramukhs’.

The party also chalked out plans for Andhra Pradesh, where it recently lost its ally the TDP.

Meanwhile, sources said party chief Amit Shah and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje also discussed the contentious issue of a new Rajasthan BJP chief, a post that has been lying vacant for two months.

Overcoming their differences, apparently at the behest of the RSS, the two also met separately after the core group meeting of the state to discuss the names.

The post has been lying vacant ever since Ashok Parnami resigned on April 18 amid differences between Shah and Raje on his successor.

While Shah is backing union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Raje wants the post to be given to either of the two ministers Shrichand Kriplani or Arun Chaturvedi in her cabinet.

Sources say Shah’s choice continues to be the top runner even as the leadership is also considering a Brahmin to send a “good” message to other communities.
