Ferozepur, May 22, 2020: Despite enforcing of countrywide lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic by both India and Pakistan, smuggling of heroin from the neighboring country through the Punjab border, has been going on unabated. Punjab shares a 553-km border, with a barbed fence, with Pakistan. On 22 May 2020 alert Border Security Force troops thwarted the attempt of smuggling of heroin, arms and ammunition and seized one 02 Ltrs Plastic bottle filled with contraband (approx- 1.900 kg) suspected to be heroin along with 280 gms Opium and 01 Pistol (9mm), 01 Magazine and 05 Live Rounds by Border Security Force in the area of responsibility of 116 Bn BSF, Ferozepur Sector. Vigilant troops of Border Security Force once again thwarted the attempt of Anti-National Elements to push the consignment of contraband items into India. During the year 2020, BSF has effected under mentioned seizures on Punjab Border : Heroin : 162.033 Kgs (including today’s seizure ), Indian Border Crosser Apprehended : 50 Nos, Pak Intruder : 06 Nos, Weapon (Different Types) : 18 Nos (including today’s seizure ), Magazine(Different Types) : 28 Nos, Ammunition(Various Calibres) : 281 Rds (including today’s seizure ), Pak Mobile, Phone : 02 Nos, Pak SIM Card : 04 Nos.
