Universities in Bangladesh will resume all academic activities from May 24. Announcing this in Dhaka on Monday, Education Minister Dipu Moni said that the hostels will open one week early on May 17. She said that 1.30 lakh residential students, 15,000 teachers and 25,000 employees of the universities will be provided COVID 19 vaccination before the reopening of the hostels. No examination will be taken before the opening of the classes.She further said that the decision on reopening of the schools will be taken after Feb.28.All educational institutions in Bangladesh have remained closed since March 17 last year after the first Coronavirus case was found in the country. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the authorities to review the situation for the opening of the educational institutions closed due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam told media after the weekly cabinet meeting that the interministerial meeting will take place in the next 5-6 days to review the situation as per the directive of the Prime Minister. Meanwhile, the vaccination programme in Bangladesh was being conducted in full steam.According to the latest figure released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), till Monday, more than 23 lakh people have been vaccinated all over the country.
