The Delhi Police had formally asked the Delhi Chief Secretary to declare a public holiday during the three-day G-20 Summit in New Delhi. Additionally, they requested the Chief Secretary to direct commercial and business establishments located within ‘controlled zones’ to remain closed. After this request, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the proposal, which will now be sent to Delhi LG. A formal order declaring the public holiday will be issued once Lieutenant Governor (LG) VK Saxena gives his final approval to the proposal.

The decision is made with considerations for VIP movements and route planning. The primary aim is to ensure that ordinary citizens do not encounter any unwarranted commuting difficulties as a result of these restrictions.

During the G20 Summit, notable figures like US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and French President Emmanuel Macron, along with other world leaders, are set to visit India. According to White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, President Biden’s presence in India is scheduled from September 7 to 10, where he will partake in the summit. Reportedly, during this period, Biden is also expected to engage in several one-on-one meetings with other leaders.
