17 feared dead in bridge mishap in Mizoram, Rly ex-gratia compensation of Rs 10 lakh for kin of dead

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the loss of lives due to an under construction railway bridge mishap in Mizoram. PM Modi announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured. Railway Ministry also announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the kin of workers.

Prime Minister’s Office posted on X (formerly Twitter);

“Pained by the bridge mishap in Mizoram. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. Rescue operations are underway and all possible assistance is being given to those affected. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. Rs. 50,000 would be given to the injured.”

In a tragic incident in Mizoram, an under-construction railway bridge near Sairang, about 21 kilometers from the state capital Aizawl, collapsed on Wednesday, leaving at least 17 workers dead, and several others feared trapped. The incident occurred around 11 am on a Wednesday, shocking the local community and authorities.

The site of crash is around 21 km from Mizoram’s capital Aizawl. The incident happened around 10 am.

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga also expressed deep sorrow and condolences via social media platform X (formerly Twitter). He shared his grief over the incident and offered support to the affected families and injured workers.
