Amid heatwave, Bangladesh salt production hits 63-year high
Amid severe heat wave conditions in different parts of Bangladesh, the country’s salt production has reached its highest output in 63 years. Salt farmers in Cox’s Bazar and the Banshkhali coastal area of Chittagong said salt production will further increase if heat intensifies as well.
On one hand, due to the heatwave which has swept over Bangladesh in the entire month of April has created lots of misery for millions, these same hot days have come as a boon for salt farmers across Bangladesh.
Bangladesh’s salt production reached 22.34 lakh tonnes this year which is the highest since its production started 63 years ago.
According to the Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation, the heat of the field, dry weather and the wind are leading to an increase in the production of salt.
