PM Modi pays tribute to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary.
In a post on X, PM Modi wrote, “On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji.”

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and party MP Rahul Gandhi also visited Veer Bhumi in Delhi to pay homage to Rajiv Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi also shared a childhood picture of himself with his father on the social media platform X.
Other leaders of the Congress party, including P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot, were among those who paid their respects to the former prime minister in the national capital.
Rajiv Gandhi assumed the leadership of Congress in 1984 following the assassination of his mother, the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He became India’s youngest Prime Minister at 40 when he took the oath of office on October 31, 1984.
He served as India’s Prime Minister until December 2, 1989. On May 21, 1991, in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) suicide bomber during an election rally.
