Hemant Soren to take oath as Jharkhand CM later today
Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan on Thursday invited Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) president Hemant Soren to form the government, a day after Champai Soren stepped down from the chief minister’s post.
Soren will take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand at 5 pm today, confirmed sources from the Raj Bhavan.
Champai Soren resigned from the post just five months after taking the oath, paving the way for Hemant Soren to resume the role.
“Following Hemant Soren’s return, our alliance made this decision, choosing him as our leader. Therefore, I have resigned from the position of Chief Minister,” Champai Soren told reporters.
Champai Soren took oath as Jharkhand CM at Raj Bhavan on February 2 earlier this year.
After staking claim to form the government in Jharkhand, the JMM’s executive president said that details would be shared soon.
Hemant Soren was released from Birsa Munda Jail on June 28, nearly five months after he was granted bail in the alleged money laundering case. He had resigned as Chief Minister prior to his arrest on January 31.
Hemant was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in January on charges related to an alleged land scam and money laundering.
