India’s UPI goes live at Galeries Lafayette in Paris, eyes Olympics boost

India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has expanded its footprint to the heart of Paris, with the flagship store of Galeries Lafayette on Haussmann Boulevard now accepting UPI payments.

Reflecting on the success of UPI’s earlier launch at the Eiffel Tower in January this year, Ambassador of India to France and the Principality of Monaco, Jawed Ashraf, expressed satisfaction with the swift conclusion of the agreement between Lyra and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) at the world-famous Galeries Lafayette, ahead of the Paris Olympics scheduled to begin on July 26, which is expected to attract a large number of Indian visitors.

“The Ambassador recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s inaugural international launch of UPI in Singapore in 2018 and expressed optimism about UPI’s global journey,” said a press release by the Indian Embassy in France.

Besides facilitating fast, secure, and efficient cross-border digital payments, the ambassador hoped that UPI would evolve into a preferred platform for international money transfers and achieve widespread adoption globally, the release further said.
