Prime Minister Modi surpasses 100 million followers on X, becomes world’s most followed leader
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the most followed world leader on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. PM Modi’s follower count has surpassed 100 million, setting a new benchmark for political figures globally.
The Prime Minister’s digital influence far outstrips that of his domestic political counterparts. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi trails with 26.4 million followers, while Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has 27.5 million. Other prominent Indian politicians, including Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, and Lalu Prasad Yadav, have significantly smaller followings on the platform.
PM Modi’s reach on X also eclipses that of other world leaders. U.S. President Joe Biden has 38.1 million followers, while Pope Francis and Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed have 18.5 million and 11.2 million followers, respectively.
Surprisingly, the Indian leader’s follower count surpasses even those of global sports stars and celebrities. He outpaces cricketer Virat Kohli (64.1 million), footballer Neymar Jr (63.6 million), and musicians Taylor Swift (95.3 million) and Lady Gaga (83.1 million).
PM Modi’s X following has grown by approximately 30 million in the past three years. His digital footprint extends to other platforms as well, with nearly 25 million YouTube subscribers and over 91 million Instagram followers.
Expressing happiness, Prime Minister said, “A hundred million on X! Happy to be on this vibrant medium and cherish the discussion, debate, insights, people’s blessings, constructive criticism and more. Looking forward to an equally engaging time in the future as well” in a post on X.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the Prime Minister.
“The Modi phenomenon trail blazes on X. Congratulations to PM Narendra Modi Ji on crossing the staggering 100 million follower mark on X. A leader whom the world looks up to, Modi Ji remains unchallenged as the most followed global leader,” Shah said on X.
Since joining X in 2009, PM has maintained an active presence, engaging with citizens and never resorting to paid promotions or artificial follower inflation. His account is noted for its organic growth and consistent interaction with followers.
