Defence collaboration between India, Vietnam is a very important pillar”: MEA

Ministry of External Affairs Secretary (East) Jaideep Mazumdar emphasized the growing importance of defense collaboration between India and Vietnam during a special briefing on Thursday. The briefing followed the three-day state visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to India.

“Defence collaboration, as I have said, is a very important pillar and both leaders recognize that industry collaboration is a priority. Indeed, defence industry cooperation has emerged as a very significant area,” Mazumdar said.

He highlighted the signing of an implementation arrangement for defense industry cooperation, establishing a framework for future collaboration.

The MEA Secretary also said that discussions included technology transfers in defense production, an area of particular interest to the Vietnamese side. India’s approach to defense supplies for Vietnam will be guided by Vietnam’s specific requirements, he added.

During the visit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Vietnamese counterpart jointly inaugurated the Army Software Park at the Telecommunications University in Nha Trang, Vietnam. The leaders also oversaw the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh while speaking at Hyderabad House on Thursday praised India’s outlook in today’s world and its strategy during COVID-19.

Pham Minh Chinh said that security challenges in the Asia Indo-Pacific region are fierce and to tackle this, the world needs international solidarity.
