Kolkata rape-murder case: CBI arrests former RG Kar Medical College Principal Sandip Ghosh on corruption charges
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College, on Monday over allegations of corruption and financial misconduct at the hospital.
Ghosh came under investigation following the brutal rape and murder of a trainee doctor on the premises of the hospital.
The CBI has also arrested two vendors of hospital supplies and a close associate of Ghosh in connection with the case. On August 24, acting on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, the CBI officially registered an FIR against Ghosh.
In response to the allegations, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kolkata suspended Ghosh’s membership last week. The Calcutta High Court has directed the CBI to submit a progress report on the investigation by September 17.
Earlier this month, the Supreme Court ordered that the security of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital be handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) while hearing the suo motu case related to the incident.
