Sinner beats Fritz in straight sets to win US Open men’s final
World number one Jannik Sinner cruised past Taylor Fritz to capture the US Open title, securing his second Grand Slam of the year.
Italy’s Sinner, who claimed his first major at the Australian Open in January, held off a late challenge from American 12th seed Fritz to seal a 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 victory.
The triumph comes just 19 days after he was cleared of any wrongdoing following two positive tests for a banned substance in March.
At 23, Sinner raised his arms in celebration, gazing skyward as he became the first player since Guillermo Vilas in 1977 to win his first two Grand Slam titles in the same season
He also made history as the first Italian man to win the singles title at the US Open.
