Sri Lanka spinner Praveen Jayawickrama banned for a year: ICC

Sri Lanka’s left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama has been banned from all forms of cricket for one year, of which six months will be suspended, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ban was imposed on Jayawickrama after he admitted to violating the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Code. The 26-year-old acknowledged breaching Article 2.4.7, which relates to hindering or delaying any investigations conducted by the ACU.

This includes actions like concealing, tampering with, or destroying relevant documents or information that could be pertinent to the investigation or serve as evidence of corrupt activities under the Code.

Jayawickrama last represented Sri Lanka in 2022. He has played for the island nation in five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is, claiming a total of 32 international wickets across those 15 matches, according to the ICC.

The charges relate to international cricket and the Lanka Premier League.
