Canada’s Deputy PM resigns after rift with Trudeau
Ottawa, December 17, 2024: Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland resigned after disagreeing with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau over US President-elect Donald Trump’s tariff threats. She also stepped down as finance minister.
This is first open dissent against Prime Minister Trudeau from within his cabinet.
In her resignation letter she said that our country today faces a grave challenge.She had differences with Trudeau over US President elect Donald Trump’s planned 25 percent tariffs on Canadian imports.
She further said that for the past number of weeks, you and I have found ourselves at odds about the best path forward for Canada.
