India rings in 2025 with nationwide celebrations; PM Modi, President Murmu extend New Year greetings

India welcomed the year 2025 with joy and enthusiasm, as cities across the nation held vibrant celebrations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his warm wishes to the nation on Wednesday, expressing hope for a prosperous and fulfilling year ahead.

In a post on X, PM Modi wrote: “Happy 2025! May this year bring everyone new opportunities, success, and endless joy. May everybody be blessed with wonderful health and prosperity.”

President Droupadi Murmu also shared her greetings on the eve of the New Year.

In her message, she said:”On the joyous occasion of the new year, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all Indians, living in India and abroad. The coming of the new year marks the beginning of new hopes, dreams, and aspirations in our lives. Let us welcome the New Year with joy and enthusiasm and take our society and nation further on the path of unity and excellence.”

Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai saw large crowds gathering to welcome 2025. In the national capital, popular spots like Hauz Khas, Connaught Place, and Lajpat Nagar were packed with revelers, prompting heightened security by the Delhi Police to ensure a safe celebration.

In Punjab’s Amritsar, people flocked to the Golden Temple to mark the New Year, while in Bhopal and Lucknow, streets were filled with dancing and celebrations as the clock struck midnight. Mumbai’s beaches, including Juhu, Chowpatty, and Versova, were brimming with people enjoying fireworks displays, with Marine Drive serving as a prime spot for viewing the sky lit up in vibrant colors.

Tourist destinations like Manali in Himachal Pradesh saw crowds cheering and dancing, while in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, fireworks filled the sky. West Bengal’s celebrations were marked by the glow of lights from mobile phones, and in Andhra Pradesh’s Visakhapatnam, cakes were cut as part of the festivities.

Other cities, including Ranchi in Jharkhand and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, also saw locals take to the streets with traditional music, singing, and dancing, creating an atmosphere of joy as India embraced the New Year with open arms.
