Modi Sarkar has your back: Jaishankar assures Indian diaspora in opening remarks at 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Thursday delivered the opening remarks at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, emphasizing the crucial role of the Indian diaspora in nation-building and the government’s efforts to support Indians abroad.

Jaishankar likened the event to a “family reunion,” noting that Indians living abroad are not only witnessing India’s progress but also contributing to it and taking pride in their achievements.

Highlighting the diaspora’s contributions in technology, trade, tourism, and investment, Jaishankar said, “In a globalized era, the diaspora only becomes more important with each passing year.”

He emphasized that India’s people-centric initiatives directly benefit the diaspora, particularly in improving ease of doing business, connectivity, and travel. Additionally, he outlined enhancements in passport services, consular assistance, and grievance resolution, all aimed at safeguarding the well-being of Indians overseas.

Reassuring the diaspora of the government’s commitment, Jaishankar said, “In times of difficulties, you can be confident that the Modi Sarkar has your back.”

He also praised Odisha’s historical role in India’s external engagements, drawing a connection between the ancient Bali Yatra and modern policies like the Act East Policy.

Despite global challenges, Jaishankar emphasized that India remains confident, modernizing, and inclusive, where tradition and technology coexist. He urged the diaspora to actively contribute to the realization of Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

The 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention, themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” is being held in collaboration with the state government of Odisha from January 8 to 10 in Bhubaneswar. The flagship event, which brings together representatives from over 50 countries, serves as a platform for diaspora members to connect and contribute to India’s development journey.
