IPL 2025: MI thrash CSK by 9 wickets as Rohit and Surya shine

Rohit Sharma finally found form in IPL 2025, scoring his first half-century of the season in his eighth innings. He made 76 off 45 balls, while Suryakumar Yadav smashed 68 off just 30 balls, helping Mumbai Indians (MI) cruise to a dominant nine-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Wankhede Stadium.
Chasing 177, MI finished the game in just 15.4 overs with 26 balls to spare. This win was MI’s first against CSK in their last five encounters and gave them their fourth win of the season, moving them to sixth on the points table. CSK, on the other hand, remained at the bottom with only four points from eight matches.
Earlier, CSK put up a total of 176/5 in 20 overs. Shivam Dube (50 off 32) and Ravindra Jadeja (53* off 35) were the key contributors. They put on a 79-run partnership to boost CSK’s total.
But the highlight of CSK’s innings was 17-year-old debutant Ayush Mhatre, who scored a quickfire 32 off just 15 balls, hitting a four and two sixes in one over. He gave CSK the momentum early on after Rachin Ravindra got out for just 5.
Jasprit Bumrah was MI’s best bowler, taking 2/25 in his four overs, including the wickets of Dube and MS Dhoni. Mitchell Santner also bowled economically, giving away just 14 runs in three overs and taking one wicket.
For MI, it was all about Rohit and Surya. Rohit finally looked like his old self, hitting six sixes and four fours, while Surya played his trademark 360-degree game, finding boundaries all around the park.
Their 114-run partnership ensured MI had an easy chase, and the Wankhede crowd enjoyed every moment of it.
