Wimbledon 2023: Defending Champion Novak Djokovic & Top seed Iga Swiatek enter third round of Singles event

In Wimbledon Tennis, Defending Champion Novak Djokovic and eighth seed Jannik Sinner have eased into the third round of Men’s Singles in London. Second seed Djokovic of Serbia defeated Australia’s Jordan Thompson, 6-3, 7-6, 7-5 while Italian Sinner knocked out Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman, 7-5, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round yesterday, July 5.

In other Men’s singles results, third seed Daniil Medvedev, ninth seed Taylor Fritz, 10th seed Frances Tiafoe, 16th seed Tommy Paul, and 21st seed Grigor Dimitrov all advanced to the second round. Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas dispatched former US Open winner Dominic Thiem in the opening match. In Women’s Singles, Top seed Iga Swiatek and 11th seed Daria Kasatkina progressed into the third round. Swiatek of Poland eased past Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo, 6-2, 6-0. Kasatkina overpowered Briton Jodie Anna Burrage.

In a big upset, eighth seed Maria Sakkari was knocked out by unseeded Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 in a first-round tussle. In other results, 10th seed Barbora Krejcikova, 13th seed Beatriz Haddad Maia, 17th seed Jelena Ostapenko, 18th seed Karolina Pliskova, and 20th seed Donna Vekic, registered wins in the opening round.
