National Crisis Management Committee reviews Sikkim situation, ensuring quick relief & rescue

In the meeting on October 4th, chaired by Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba, The National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) evaluated the current situation in Sikkim. The Chief Secretary of Sikkim actively participated in the meeting via video conferencing, offering crucial updates on the state’s status. The committee was also briefed on the State government’s dedicated efforts in executing relief and rescue operations.

The Home Secretary informed the Committee that the Central Government is monitoring the situation around the clock at the highest level. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) operates two control rooms, both of which are closely observing the situation and extending all available assistance.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has promptly deployed three teams, with additional teams on standby in Guwahati and Patna. Furthermore, the Army and Air Force are mobilizing teams and assets to support the state’s ongoing rescue and restoration endeavours.

During the review of relief and rescue measures by Central Agencies and the Government of Sikkim, Cabinet Secretary Rajiv highlighted the need for prioritizing the evacuation of tourists, individuals abandoned in the Chungthang dam tunnel and tourists. He also recommended deploying extra NDRF teams and swiftly restoring road, telecom, and electricity interconnection.

Cabinet Secretary Rajiv ensures Government of Sikkim that all central agencies stand prepared and are committed to providing assistance.

This high-level meeting was attended by various key figures, including the Union Home Secretary, Chief Secretary of Sikkim, Secretaries from the Ministries of Power, Road Transport & Highways, Military Affairs, Telecommunications, water resources, and more. additionally, representatives from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Directorate General of Meteorology (IMD), National Disaster
Response Force (NDRF), and officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs were present.
