Drone views show smoggy Delhi as air quality descends back to ‘severe’

The air quality in the Indian capital slipped into the ‘severe’ category from ‘very poor’ category a day earlier, the country’s Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) said on Wednesday (November 22).

The world’s most polluted capital resumed its annual battle on pollution this month, despite government pledges to improve. The CPCB data showed the air quality index over 400 in several areas of the Indian capital. Anything above 60 is considered unhealthy.

Delhi’s air pollution gets worse in winter, when wind speeds drop and cooling air traps pollutants spewed by vehicles, industry and farmers burning agricultural waste in surrounding states to prepare for new planting.
