PM Modi and Israeli PM Netanyahu discuss maritime safety amid Israel-Hamas conflict

Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, expressing concerns about the safety of maritime traffic in the Red Sea region.

In a telephonic conversation, PM Modi underscored India’s commitment to a peaceful resolution in the Middle East and assured continued humanitarian aid for those affected.

Sharing details on X, PM Modi stated, “Had a productive exchange of views with PM Netanyahu on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict, including shared concerns on the safety of maritime traffic. Highlighted India’s consistent stand in favor of the early restoration of peace & stability in the region with continued humanitarian assistance for the affected.”

The Israeli prime minister’s office also commented on the conversation, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding free shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. They highlighted the threat posed by the Houthis at the behest of Iran and the global interest in preventing harm to international trade, including the economies of Israel and India, as reported by The Times of Israel.

Meanwhile, the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza reported that at least 19,667 Palestinians have lost their lives in the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Strip since October 7.
