PM Modi hails landmark legal reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lauded the recent passage of three crucial bills – Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 – by the Parliament.

Describing this legislative milestone as a pivotal moment in the nation’s narrative, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the bills’ crucial role in bolstering protections for the poor, marginalized, and vulnerable sectors of society, while simultaneously adopting a strong stance against organized crime, terrorism, and related offenses.

Taking to social media platform X, the Prime Minister said, “The passage of Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 marks a watershed moment in our history. These Bills mark the end of colonial-era laws. A new era begins with laws centered on public service and welfare.”

The transformative essence of these Bills mirrors India’s commitment to holistic reform. The legislation modernizes the legal, policing, and investigative systems, placing a strong emphasis on leveraging technology and forensic science. The Bills are designed to offer enhanced protection to the underprivileged sections of society.

The Prime Minister remarked, “At the same time, these Bills come down heavily on organized crime, terrorism, and such offenses which strike at the root of our peaceful journey to progress. Through them, we have also bid goodbye to the outdated sections on sedition.”

PM Modi underscored that the legal reforms redefine India’s legal framework to be more pertinent and compassionate. He shared a video featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah elucidating the key features of the Bills in the Rajya Sabha.

The passage of the Bills signifies a noteworthy departure from the legal landscape of the colonial era, ushering in a new era where the focus lies on public service, welfare, and a robust response to contemporary challenges.
