Dense fog blankets most part of north India; alert issued for states
The states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Tamil Nadu reported very dense fog at 8:30 am on Friday morning.
Several states in India woke up to a thick blanket of fog on Friday, December 29. The states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Tamil Nadu reported very dense fog at 8:30 am on Friday morning. Meanwhile, dense fog was reported in isolated pockets of Rajasthan, Odisha, Bihar and shallow to moderate fog in isolated pockets of Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Telangana.
These places also reported a low visibility. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), visibility recorded in J&K’s Srinagar was 25m, Uttarakhand’s Pantnagar was 25m, Punjab’s Patiala & Ludhiana at 25m each, and Amritsar at 200m. On the other hand, in Delhi, Safdarjung recorded a visibility at 200m.
Red Alerts Issued:
The IMD has issued red warning in Delhi for Friday and orange alert for December 30. In the images shared by the IMD, a layer of fog is visible in Punjab, Haryana, North Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and North-Western Madhya Pradesh. The cold winds blowing along with fog has also increased the chill.
The IMD has said that dense to very dense fog will be seen over most parts of northwest India. The Meteorological Department, while posting on X, warned of dense fog in Haryana and Punjab for the next 4 days, while in Uttar Pradesh it has issued a warning of dense fog for the next 2 days.
The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi was at 8.4 degrees Celsius, one degree above the season’s average, while maximum temperature was recorded at 21.4 degrees Celsius, one degree above normal.
Delay in train schedule:
Foggy weather has also resulted in a delay of train and flight services. Due to low visibility, at least 11 Delhi-bound trains have been delayed on Friday.
