Ayurveda research program ‘SMART 2.0’ launched to address health priorities
Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) in collaboration with the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) has announced the launch of ‘SMART 2.0’ (Scope for Mainstreaming Ayurveda Research among Teaching professionals) to promote Ayurvedic research. This program aims to facilitate robust clinical studies in priority areas of Ayurveda through collaborative efforts with academic institutions and hospitals nationwide.
The study, led by Professor (Vd) Rabinarayan Acharya, Director-General of CCRAS, focuses on assessing the safety, tolerability, and adherence to Ayurveda formulations in key research areas. These include Bal Kasa (pediatric respiratory disorders), Malnutrition, Insufficient lactation, Abnormal Uterine Bleeding, Osteoporosis in post-menopausal women, and Type II Diabetes Mellitus.
CCRAS, an apex organization under the Ministry of Ayush, is dedicated to formulating, coordinating, developing, and promoting research in Ayurveda on scientific lines. The primary objective of ‘SMART 2.0’ is to generate tangible evidence demonstrating the efficacy and safety of Ayurvedic interventions through interdisciplinary research methods and translating the findings into public healthcare.
Building upon the success of ‘SMART 1.0,’ which covered around 10 diseases with active participation from teaching professionals in 38 colleges, the new program seeks to expand its reach and impact. Ayurveda academic institutions interested in collaborative research activities are invited to submit their ‘Expression of Interest’ by following the prescribed format available on the CCRAS website: (http://ccras.nic.in/sites/default/files/Notices/02012024_SMART.pdf).
For additional information or queries, interested parties can reach out to ccrassmart2[dot]0[at]gmail[dot]com with a copy to president[dot]boa[at]ncismindia[dot]org.
