Historical drama ‘Oppenheimer’ sweeps top honors at 29th Critics Choice Awards

The historical drama “Oppenheimer,” featuring Cillian Murphy as renowned theoretical physicist Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer, took home the top honors at the 29th annual Critics Choice Awards on Sunday. The film secured awards for Best Picture and Best Director for Christopher Nolan, who also won his first Golden Globe in the same category earlier this month.

The movie, centered around the creation of the atomic bomb, also earned accolades for Best Acting Ensemble and Best Supporting Actor, awarded to Robert Downey Jr. At the 81st Golden Globe Awards, “Oppenheimer” achieved significant success, securing five honors, including the prestigious Best Movie Drama prize.

Other notable winners at the event included Emma Stone, who won the Best Actress award for her role as a revived deceased woman in the gothic comedy “Poor Things.” Paul Giamatti and Da’Vine Joy Randolph received awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively, for their performances in “The Holdovers,” a comedy set at a boys boarding school.

The summer blockbuster “Barbie” was recognized as the Best Comedy Film, and the song “I’m Just Ken” from the movie secured the award for Best Song.

The Critics Choice Awards are decided by the Critics Choice Association, a group comprising broadcast, radio, and online critics, along with entertainment journalists.
