Khadi Bhawan unveils ‘Sanatan Khadi Vastra’

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) launched its latest collection, “Sanatan Khadi Vastra,” on Wednesday, offering a refreshing take on India’s timeless handwoven fabric.

Unveiled at the flagship Khadi Bhawan in Connaught Place, the new range boasts elegant designs crafted at the Khadi Center of Excellence (COEK) at NIFT, blending tradition with contemporary sensibilities. KVIC Chairman Manoj Kumar said the unique character of Sanatan Khadi, produced without mechanical or chemical processes, upholding its historical significance.

He announced a special 20% discount on the new collection alongside broader discounts ranging from 10% to 60% on all Khadi and village industry products at Khadi Bhawan from January 17 to 25, 2024.

“Sanatan Vastra” embodies Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Khadi for Nation, Khadi for Fashion, and Khadi for Transformation,” Kumar said. He described the collection as a bridge between India’s glorious past and the evolving needs of the present, catering to modern tastes while preserving Khadi’s legacy.

The launch, he said, aims to reconnect Indian youth with the Swadeshi spirit and contribute to the upliftment of rural artisans whose livelihoods depend on this traditional craft.

Kumar highlighted the Prime Minister’s efforts to revitalize Khadi, recalling its pivotal role in the Indian freedom struggle under Mahatma Gandhi. He cited impressive statistics showcasing the significant growth of the Khadi industry in recent years. Khadi and village industry product sales have witnessed a remarkable surge, exceeding Rs 1.34 lakh crore. Khadi textile production has risen threefold, from Rs 880 crore to Rs 3000 crore, while product sales have quadrupled, reaching Rs 6000 crore.

Additionally, Khadi Bhawan’s Connaught Place showroom recorded a single-day sale of Rs 1.5 crore during the Khadi Mahotsav, followed by a record-breaking monthly sale of Rs 25 crore at Khadi Bhandar. These figures, Kumar noted, culminate in the astounding feat of Rs 15 crore worth of Khadi being sold at Delhi’s IITF in just 14 days, a testament to the industry’s revitalization.
