PM Modi embarks on official visit to UAE and Qatar

Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarked on a three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar on Tuesday, marking his seventh visit to the UAE and second to Qatar since assuming office in 2014.

In his departure statement, PM Modi underscored the substantial growth in cooperation between India and the UAE over the past nine years, covering diverse sectors such as trade, investment, defence, security, food and energy security, and education.

PM Modi said he was eager to meet with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE, in Abu Dhabi, to discuss advancing the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

PM Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the first Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi, UAE, organized by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, symbolizing the deepening cultural bonds between the two countries.

Additionally, he will also address global leaders at the World Government Summit in Dubai, upon an invitation extended by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Defense Minister of the UAE.

In Qatar, PM Modi will engage in meetings with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir, and other dignitaries, to further bolster the historically close and amicable relations between India and Qatar.

Coinciding with PM Modi’s visit is the “Ahlan Modi” event, organized by the Indian community in Abu Dhabi, which has garnered significant attention, underscoring the widespread admiration and support for the prime minister. With approximately 3.5 million Indian expatriates in the UAE, constituting approximately 35 percent of the country’s population, the event has received an overwhelming response, with over 65,000 registrations.

Jitendra Vaidya, President of the Indian People Forum and leader of the ‘Ahlan Modi’ initiative, highlighted the community-driven nature of the event, emphasizing its collective effort and symbolizing the affection and regard for PM Modi within the Indian community.

The ‘Ahlan Modi’ event promises to be a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, featuring an exhibition by over 700 cultural artists, showcasing the diverse arts and traditions of India. Over 150 Indian community groups are actively participating, showcasing India’s regional diversity and the integration of blue-collar workers from across the Emirates.
