IND vs ENG: Bumrah to be rested, KL Rahul likely for Ranchi Test

Premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is set to be rested for the fourth Test of the ongoing 5-match series between India and England, while senior batter KL Rahul is likely to return for the Ranchi Test.

The decision to rest Bumrah is part of workload management by the Indian team. He is the leading wicket-taker of the series and has already sent down 80.5 overs in the three games so far.

Speedster Mohammed Siraj was similarly rested for the second Test in Vizag.

There is no immediate information on whether the team management will seek any replacement for Bumrah.

Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the third Test to participate in the Ranji Trophy game for his state Bengal, will rejoin the squad in Ranchi.

On the batting front, senior batter KL Rahul, who was ruled out of the second and third Tests due to a quadriceps strain, is likely to return for the next game. If he returns, Rajat Patidar, who made his debut in the second game, may find himself out of the Playing XI.

Patidar scored 32 runs in the first innings and nine runs in the second innings on his debut. His struggle for runs continued in Rajkot as the Karnataka youngster managed only five runs in the two times he batted.

The 4th Test is scheduled from Feb 23 to Feb 27.
